Holland Ice Sculptures and Lake Michigan

On Saturday we went to Holland to see the ice sculpting contest, but before we did that we stopped by the lakeshore to see the ice.

You could just tell that the water was thick with ice.

It was a beautiful day ~ I was sure glad the sun was shining...it always seems a bit chillier by the lake.

Doesn't that picture make you feel cold? Look at the ice at the base....and check out the crazy swans in the water ~ BRRRRR!

I think a crime is being committed here! =P But at least he's committing it with a smile right? (ha!)

Look at all the ice on the railing! The boys were all trying to break some of the ice off....I tried to tell them that they'd probably end up breaking their feet before the ice gave!

SNOW DUNES!

The boys are checking out the beginning of a Griffin ~ we asked Bean if he posed for it =P

A cute penguin!

After stopping for pizza we went into a wool store (YAY YAY YAY) and Weston picked out some "wool" (aka worsted weight wool yarn) for his very own hat that I am knitting for him with my very own little fingers =P Then after that we headed to the candy store...each of the boys picked out a treat.....children in a candy store....let the nightmares begin ~ HA! They were actually VERY good...Bug just took FOREVER (literally) to decide on what he wanted.

Silly Bird! He is such a funny little man...he always can get me to laugh (which isn't always a good thing!)

Bug doing a head-stand in the snow....I was half-tempted to put a hat down and start taking tips..hey! It seems to work in Chicago, why not downtown Holland?!? =P

Checking out the sculpting...Can you see the bird being made? And Bean is standing by a dragon (can you see the dragon?)

Bug did NOT like the noisy chainsaws! And do you see the Griffin is almost complete? They sculpted that FAST!

Then we finished off the afternoon with a rousing snowball fight. The boys had a BLAST! Bird was so funny ~ he'd walk up to Dave with a handful of snow and just smash it on him...he didn't quite get the whole "throwing" part down....something for him to work on for next year! =)
