On the day of the BIG birthday party (we had a party for Bug, Bird, Lisa and Amy), we spent the morning looking at some pretty neat older cars at the Del Shannon Car Show.
After looking at most of the cars (there were a LOT ~ over 100!) we had a picnic lunch, Doodle-Bird took a nap and the boys rode their bikes while Lisa and Amy did some swinging...they loved our big tree swing.
Then it was birthday party time! Four cakes and four people celebrating birthdays (needless to say there was PLENTY of cake to go around!) =)
They opened gifts ~ a U of M keychain with their American names on it from Brian and Ginny, a fancy bookmark from Grandma Ann and Grandpa Don (for their Bibles....Amy and Lisa asked us if they could buy a Bible) and a scrapbook for each girl from us.
Amy was pushing Lisa in a circle on the swing, so Bean decided to stand in the center of the circle ~ the girls thought that was pretty funny ~ because Lisa would go around him instead of hitting him....then Bean decided to show off and lay on the ground so Lisa was going over top of him....such a ham!
We went to a "Farewell Picnic" on Thursday for all the exchange kids that were here. It was a really fun time ~ complete with a dunk tank! The last picture is the group of kids that were here for the month. It was a very emotional evening as they were saying good-bye to the friends they had made throughout the month.
Their last full day here was Friday ~ Weston was able to take Friday off of work, so we headed to Silver Lake to the Dunes. We thought the girls would enjoy a Dune Ride....and boy did they ever! Truth be told we ALL enjoyed it! It was the boys first time going for a dune ride and mine too. I laughed at the look of pure happiness on the girls' faces when we'd go racing down the side of a dune =)
After the dune ride, we went to see the lighthouse, had lunch and then did a little shopping in Pentwater. To cool off we headed to Lake Michigan. We actually got the girls to walk in the water! And this was NO small accomplishment either as they did not like the water (they couldn't swim and Amy almost drowned when she was little ~ plus they told us they were afraid of what was in the water) ~ but they did kick off their socks and shoes and walk along the shore. They thought the water was so beautiful.
As you can see, we had a few sleeping kids on the way home ~ I guess that is a sign of a full day! =)
