On Wednesday we got a call asking if we would be willing to take TWO girls (not one, but two) ~ we said yes =)
To back up a bit and fill you in.....our church is the "classroom" for CETUSA. Basically what happens is kids come to the US from all over and this is the "gathering grounds" where they'll help the kids integrate into the US. The stay ranges from 1-4 weeks. For the 1-2 week stay, these are the kids that will then move on from here to "host families" for the next 10 months ~ the kids that are here for 4 weeks are going to a "summer camp."
So when we saw the need for host families for these kids in the church bulletin, we decided that this was something we could do ~ after all we DO have the room =) I told Weston that I thought doing a 1-2 week stint as a host family would be a good idea (since we've never done this before and I had no clue what to expect). We decided to be the host family for a girl from Thailand who would be here two weeks. We got a call on Wednesday ~ and Wednesday night we had two girls move in with us for a month =)
They are both from China and are 15 and 16 years old ~ they are really sweet, polite girls and we are looking forward to getting to know them better.
For now they go to the church every morning from 8am-noon and do English classes, then from 1-5:30 they have an activity (Meijer Gardens, zoo, shopping at the mall, going to the beach, etc) ~ Weston drops them off on his way to work and picks them up on the way home. Weekends are completely free, so they get to spend the whole weekend with us (lucky ducks ~ hee hee).
Last night they asked me if they could call me "Mom" ~ I was really touched by that....I guess they like us! =) I KNOW they like Doodle ~ they pet his head and laugh at him a lot....which he is just lapping up the attention!
On another note ~ it was dental cleaning day for us and we all got a "clean bill of dental health" ~ which is ALWAYS a good thing!
